CAPACITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES


Since the establishment of the MUHTA Graduate Program, Mahidol University has continuously provided support to academic institutions and HTA-related organizations. The goals of which are to conduct trainings toward HTA strengthening and to help develop the academic institution’s curriculum which integrates concepts and applications on HTA. Notably, the trainings provided by MU aimed to capacitate more people in conducting assessments of health technologies. To build capacity, some of the topics included in the training events are: (1) principles and concepts on HTA, (2) evidence retrieval and appraisal, and, (3) methods for economic evaluations – among others.

Visit of National Health Insurance Authority, Nigeria delegates

On July 17, 2023 from 10.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m., MUPY's executive led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew, Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations and the Program Director of Mahidol University's Health Technology Assessment (MUHTA) Graduate Program together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong and postgraduate students in the MUHTA Program provided a warm welcome to the delegates from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Nigeria. Having been arranged at Room V401, the meeting was determined to discuss future collaboration between two nations. The Nigerian delegates also visited MUPY to follow up the study progress of Nigerian students who have studied in the MUHTA Graduate Program. Over the 3-day visit during July 17-20, 2023, their visiting program would enhance related experiences regarding the health insurance system and benefit package in Thailand throughout the program including academic lectures and site visiting including the Health Policy Unit of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital and other government agencies to understand the provision of health insurance in Thailand and exchange professional practices with government authorities. In addition, this event also aimed to discuss on the potential development of medical personnel and public health of NHIA, Nigeria. MUPY joined the Signing Ceremony of MoU between MUHTA Program and NHIA of Ghana

On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University's executive led by Assoc. Prof. Usa Chaikledkeaw, the Deputy Dean for Public and International Relations and the Program Director of Mahidol University Health Technology Assessment (MUHTA), together with Prof. Dr. Ammarin Thakkinstian, Co-Director for the Doctor of Philosophy Program, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, Co-Director for the Master of Sciences, along with the staff and members of MUHTA Program joined and witnessed the Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) of Ghana and the MUHTA Program. In this regard, Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, the President of Mahidol University, and Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, Chief Executive Officer, NHIA of Ghana, signed the MoU. The MoU is created to promote the collaboration of academic exchanges and development in health technology assessment between the staff and personnel of NHIA of Ghana and MUHTA Program. Moreover, the Health Technology Assessment Program has collaboration not only with the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, but also with the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Faculty of Public Health, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Institute for Population and Social Research, and Faculty of Graduate Studies. In addition, it responded to the SDG's Goal 4th: Reduce inequality within and among countries, Goal 10th: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17th: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. Pharmacoeconomics & HTA Training for Ghanian Healthcare Professionals

From the 13th of December until the 16th of December 2022, the MUHTA Graduate Program arranged HTA Training Program for the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA) of Ghana. Regarding this, MUPY's executives led by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew, Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations and the Program Director of MU-HTA Graduate Program, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arthorn Riewpaiboon, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Dr. Netnaphis Suchonwanich, and some MUHTA students hosted a warm welcome for Ghanian NHIA led by Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye (Chief Executive Officer) and six healthcare professionals from the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA) of Ghana. Having been financially supported by Roche Product Ltd., the program was organized for 4 days with the aim of sharing knowledge between Thailand and Ghana to enhance related experiences through academic lectures and site visiting. In addition, this program responded to SDG's Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere, Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. An Official Visit of the Director-General of TICA and the Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Kingdom of Thailand

On November 29, 2022, from 01:00 p.m. - 02:00 p.m., MUPY's executives led by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkeaw, the Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations, and the Program Director of Health Technology Assessment Graduate Program (MU-HTA) along with the committees of MU-HTA Program and Prof. Olivia Wu, its international advisory, provided a warm welcome to Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, the Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and H.E. Mr. Kiptiness Lindsay Kimwole, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the Kingdom of Thailand. The meeting was held at Clinical Professor Udom Kachintorn Meeting Room, 4th Floor, Pradit Hutangura Research Building, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University. The purpose of this meeting was to meet two international graduate students from Kenya, namely Ms.Patricia Nyokabi and Ms.Tabitha Okech who had received Thai Government Scholarship under the academic collaboration between Thailand and Kenya on the Development of National Health Insurance. The delegates also had an opportunity to discuss future collaboration on academic and training activities between two nations. Pharmacoeconomics & HTA Training for Nigerian Healthcare Professionals

On Monday, May 30, 2022, at 09.00 a.m., MUPY’s executives led by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew, Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations and the Program Director of MU-HTA Graduate Program, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arthorn Riewpaiboon, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong hosted a warm welcome for Nigerian healthcare professionals led by Prof. Mohammed Nasir Sambo (Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer) and six healthcare professionals from Nigeria’s National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA). Having been arranged by MU-HTA Program, the training program provided all Nigerian visitors with background knowledge and relevant experiences focusing on pharmacoeconomics and health technology assessment concepts. Having been financially supported by Roche Product Ltd., the program was organized for 4 days starting from the 30th of May until the 2nd of June 2022. The purposes of this training program were to exchange knowledge between Thailand and Nigeria and to enhance related experiences throughout the program including academic lectures and site visiting. In addition, this program responded to SDG's Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere, Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
